What is Population Pyramid

Population Pyramids are basically graphs that shows the age structure of a population of by age and gender.
The males are normally on the left and the females are normally on the right of the population pyramid.
The age categories are in intervals of 5 years. (can be seen from the center axis of the population pyramid)

Disadvantages of One Child Policy

China's One Child PolicyThe children that are left around the country because the parents wants to have a boy child are taken to the orphanage. The orphanage does not take care of the orphans. They leave them in the orphanage to starve to death.

The poor people are not able to pay the fines if they want to have 2 children due to the high increase of the tax on them. However, it is very unfair as the rich people are able to have a lot of children and they will be able to pay off the tax.

It is against the human rights. Those that do not want to abort their second baby are jailed by the china officers. They are tortured until they decide to agree to abort the second child.

Advantages of One Child Policy

One child policy makes sure that people would not give birth to too many children. It prevents from the country being too over populated. If there is too many people, they would not have enough land for everyone to stay in a clean environment. Those that are not staying in a clean environment might become ill with a serious disease. and when they go to the town to get food, the people around might get affected and could even die from it.

When they go out to find for work, it would be very hard as it is very competitive due to the high number of teenager. Some might even form gangs and commit crimes.

Giving those who give birth to children cash gifts helps to lower the cost of living and thus, it can assist couples in the cost of bringing up their child. Hence, they would not feel burdened to give birth to a child and might consider having another child.

Give priority to those that are buying a flat and have a third child. This will encourage parents to have a bigger family as they would not be troubled by not being able to find a big house. This might even encourage parents to have more children as it is no longer a big problem to having more children.

Why is it important to increase the population? What are the positive effect of high birth rates?

Population growth will result in the increase in working population. With more people working, there would not be too much pressure on the laborers and they might do a better job and the economy will grow faster.

Other than the economy, the larger population can also contribute to construction and other forms of land developments and thus, allowing the developments to be completed faster.

More talents can also be found in a larger population. Having more talents in Singapore would make Singapore more attractive to investors to invest and businessmen to find opportunity to start a business in Singapore. This would improve Singapore’s economy.

Why do we need to keep birth rates low? What are the negative effect of high birth rates?

Singapore had to keep birth rates low between 1960s-1980s as large numbers of children could not go to school. As all parents want their children to be educated, they will bring their children to schools. Hence, most children are brought to schools. But as the birth rates increased, there is lesser and lesser seats in the school. Soon, there is a point where all schools are full and could not accept anymore children. Hence, those that could not go to a school is uneducated. Lowering the birth rates in Singapore could decrease the number of uneducated people.

Singapore had to keep birth rates low between 1960s-1980s as there is a point where too many children are being born in a period of time. When too many children are born, some would be born with some diseases and some woman would suffer from some diseases. The hospitals would not have enough medical services to treat everyone and some would be left out and die from the disease. Hence, lowering the birth rates would lower the number of untreated people and could also lower the death rates in Singapore.

Singapore did not have enough food for everyone and some would have to starve and die of hunger. Hence, lowering the birth rates would lower the number of people starving and dying of hunger.
